This event, Tierra Del Sol Dessert Safari, is going to be huge. There are bunches of people here already and a lot of people have staked out areas for larger groups. We're in a good spot near the main headquarters. It's going to be loud here and we're here to have fun. We haven't seen anyone we know yet and it makes me realize how few people we know. Hopefully we'll make some new friends this weekend.

We ended up skipping the trail this morning because Gerry's jeep is leaking and he doesn't want to risk running any trails until he works on it more. So, we decided to put it in the trailer and pack up camp. We're on the way to Octillo Wells now and hope to get there in time for lunch.

I got my winch fixed today. Hooray! It didn't even need any new parts, just a bunch of cleanning. I cleanned up all the connections and scrubbed the armature to get rid of the corrosion and expose bright shiny metal and the insulators between. It should keep working for a long time. Gerry got his front end fixed and rear, but not until dinner time, so no wheeling today. Maybe tomorrow morning before we head to Octillo Wells.

Our drive to the new location went smoothly today. We stopped for gas for the jeeps and I ran by the post office while Gerry waited off the main road. Then we drove to our dirt road turnoff (Boone Road) to find that it's been improved for about half the distance to Means Lake. This made driving a pleasure and we stopped a bit after a new bridge over a wash. We're not quite to the dried lakebed, but this is a good spot for us and one others have used before. After setting up camp we went for a drive in Gerry's jeep to visit a rock. Yes, a rock. This rock is special to some people, particulary in the 60's when UFO believers built camps here to see aliens. Well, the aliens never came and the shacks are torn down. A couple of cement foundations remain as well as lots of graphitti and trash tucked in under the huge rock. It was a destination and now that I've done it, I'll only do it again if someone new wants to see it. We came back to camp for lunch and then got my jeep and the two of us headed to the "Back Door" in our jeeps. This trail is extreme, with big ledges to climb. I didn't even try. Gerry went first and I diligently followed up the first obstacle. After that everything started going wrong. Gerry had to winch up the next ledge and then broke a front axle. We winched him up and up, making it past most of the rocks. Rather than follow this route that I felt ill-prepared for (both mentally and equipment-wise), Gerry helped me get turned around and down the first obstacle. I shot up the sand hill and around to the end of the trail and came down the other part of the sand hill to see what Gerry was up to. By then he only had one wheel pulling - the drivers front. He didn't seem worried because he has a spare front axle and he thinks the rear is the locking hub. He was in good spirits and I offered my jeep as a winch point. We snapped his cable while winching and it was really good to see one snap because I've heard a lot about it and the dangers. I was in my jeep at the time, so wasn't in danger, but the cable sprung pretty good before falling to the ground. My winch has synthetic rope on it and I think we need to get some for Gerry. Well, despite the winch fiasco and then my winch breaking, we made it out of the canyon and up the steep canyon. My jeep pulling Gerry's. And how I wish I had photos. We unhooked after the hill and Gerry made it back to camp on his own. We're going to fix things in the morning. For now.....some homemade Gerry crabcakes for dinner.

We arrived at Stoddard Valley in the afternoon and went for a tour in my jeep to get a lay of the land. The good trails appeared to be in the mountains NW of our camp and we vowed to take both jeeps in the morning. After a good breakfast of Gerry's favorite Eggs Benedict, we got our jeeps ready and took off towards the mountains. The trails were a blast! Some were super
steep , others super rocky , and all in all, just plain fun . We came back to camp around lunch so Gerry could tighten up a bolt on his transfer case. After eating we were off again, in search of the Achy-Breaky trail. We found parts of it and it turned out we were on some of it in the morning, but I gave up trying to follow it when my GPS didn't match key points of the trail. Plus the sun was at the wrong angle for some of the hills and we decided to just have fun chasing eachother through the trails. This is the life. Time to take the doggies for a walk before the sun starts getting down.

On the road again, just can't wait to get on the road again. We be rolling shortly on our of our lovely campsite and on to the next. I hope to be all set-up at the next sight by mid-afternoon so we can go exploring. I'm not looking forward to the laundry and chores, but it makes it a lot better knowing there will be some jeeping at the end of the day.

February 23, 2008 - location: Calico Mountains, CA (N 34°,56.504'; W 116°,51.481')

Another day of wheeling. Ho, hum. Just kidding. We had a blast today on the trails. The folks who bought our camper couldn't come after all to get it because of problems with having the correct parts to install the tie downs. It makes me glad we went to Outfitters (the manufacturer of our slide-in) to have our tie downs installed. We had no problems and they were done while we waited. With not meeting up with them we had the whole day to play. And play we did. Gerry went up the gatekeeper to Doran Canyon and I went around the bypass and hiked down to spot his line for him. He did great on the and was riding up the
boulders real well when he slid in the hole, lost the air to his lockers, and had to winch out. He found the problem with the air and fixed the damaged hose that caused the leak. The dogs had fun watching and climbing around the cliffs while we played.

We are all packed up and will leave in the morning. After doing laundry and taking care of dumping the tanks in the RV, we will drive to Stoddard OHV area to explore. It will be our first time there and we don't know what to expect. We have a map and the GPS, so will be able to find our way around okay.

February 22, 2008 - location: Calico Mountains, CA (N 34°,56.504'; W 116°,51.481')

Our first day at Calico was great! We drove the Odessa Canyon trail up and Doran Canyon down. Gerry went down the "extreme obstacle" at the end of the trail, while I took the bypass around. The obstacle consists of large boulders (bigger than the jeep) with holes almost as big as the jeep in between. The challenge is to keep your tires on the rocks (usually grabbing from the sidewalls) and not slip into the holes. Gerry slid into one of the holes on the way down after he broke a rear hub. He was able to winch himself out with no damage to the jeep body (just some scratches on his cage). My jeep would have been really bashed up if that happened to me, so I think I'll leave this obstacle for the braver souls out there and wait until I'm more experienced and with a larger group before I attempt it. The rest of the trail is fun with good size rocks and ledges. The odessa canyon trail had one scarey spot. When climbing out of the canyon there is a ledge that is eroding away and the trail is barely wide enough for my track width and my tires overhang the edge of a hole in the cliff edge. I thought I was going to slide off the cliff I got too close to the cliff and my right tire started climbing the wall, pushing my rear out away from the cliff. I had to back-up to get my tire off the wall and when I did, my jeep lurched backwards and almost off the edge. I got it in drive real quick and scooted out of there. Gerry had no problem and just drove right along like it was nothing. We saw a bunch of mines and gorgeous rocks. I left my cameras at camp, but will bring them along on the next run. Next we are going to go up Doran and down Odessa. Hopefully the weather holds today so we can spend time at the mines. Yesterday got real overcast and started misting and blowing wind, so we kept wheeling along and headed back to camp. Right now we're going into Barstow to run a few errands and get internet. Sunday we plan to head on down the road to Stoddard OHV area and then to Johnson Valley on the way to Octillo Wells.

February 21, 2008 - location: Calico Mountains, CA (N 34°,56.504'; W 116°,51.481')

We made good time on the freeway as Gerry decided to drive through LA and out US-15 to Victorville. It only took us about 3 hours to get there, so we decided to keep going and drove all the way to Calico. We are camped about a mile from the ghost town with views of the valley. It was windy last night so we skipped a fire and opted for a quiet evening in the camper listening to classical music and chatting. I took the dogs for a hike before it got dark. They went crazy running around and sniffing in all the rock crevices. It's a good thing the snakes are hibernating. We got a lot of exercise before heading back to the camper. It was a bit chilly outside and our warm home was a welcome sight as we crested the final hill. I put an extra blanket on the bed last night to account for the cooler temperatures.

Today we get to go jeeping. I'm not in a rush to get out, though, because I would rather wait for it to warm up a bit and it's nice to sit inside under a blanket with a cup of tea and time to write. Gerry is a busy beaver this morning. He took his jeep out of the trailer and is getting it ready for the trail. He is planning on re-organizing the trailer today to get more tongue weight before we hit the road again. It was a bit squirrelly for my drive yesterday and we hope a little more tongue weight helps. After the slide-in camper goes, we may buy a fuel tank for either the back of the truck or the front of the trailer. That would keep us from having to deal with all the gas cans and if on the trailer, it would allow us to control the tongue weight by the amount of gas we put in. There will be plenty of clearance once the overhang from the camper isn't there to worry about. I think we should put it on the trailer because then we only carry it around when we have the jeep and need for gas. The negative is if we decide to tow the trailer with the motorcoach then it will be even heavier and is already pushing the limits of the hitch rating.

We love the freedom of our chosen lifestyle. It is so great to be able to pack up our home in less than an hour and drive to a new scene. Every week we can have a different view out the window - or every day if we so choose. We have done the travel-every-day thing and are happier now to spend more time and explore an area more. I keep looking out the window at the jeep trails and am starting to get anxious to get wheeling. I hope the skies clear up and the day warms.

We'll be set to hit the road this morning. Gerry is at the dentist planning some work he needs done. We're thinking to come back here in April (around my birthday on the 13th). Gerry could always find a dentist elsewhere, but I have no arguments about coming back here. I haven't been in Camarillo for my birthday since I was a teenager and it would be nice to celebrate with my family. Tonight we plan to drive towards Victorville and then wait to hear a confirmation of this weekend in Calico (just E of Barstow) from the new owner of our slide-in camper. If he can't make it, then we'll head to Johnson Valley on Thursday instead of Calico. At any rate we'll be jeeping by Friday and I am excited to hit the trails again. It rained here last night, but stopped in time to get my mom packed up this morning. She had to head out early since she works today. Gerry and I still have to break camp, but there isn't much to do. We have to load the wood on my jeep, put away our BBQ, and disconnect/store the hoses and cords. The camper is going to get a shower before we leave to rinse the salt spray off it.

Today is our last day here at the base. Tomorrow we head out to the desert. It looks like we have to go to Barstow now. Gerry and I need to be down in Ocotillo wells next weekend, which is pretty far south in the state. When we looked at a map the other day, we had decided not to go as far north as Barstow because it is much further north than we realized when we first considered it. Unfortunately, there was miscommunication with the guy buying our old camper and he thought I committed to going to Barstow (free of charge) so he could meet us there from Arizona. When I was talking to my mom yesterday, she told me that she was there when I spoke with the guy on the phone and I said we might be willing to go there, but I needed to go home and go over the maps with Gerry to decide what we're doing. So, I feel kinda dupped, but am just going to let it go and not let it bother me. Gerry and I decided that it's not too much further to go to the Barstow area and we're not going to concern ourselves with the $60 in gas and extra time it will cost us to be further north. We'll just make the best of it and learn to communicate better next time. Besides, we really want the new owner to enjoy the camper as much as we did and if it takes this extra trip to make the guy happy, than we are willing to do it.

Gerry has a bunch of last minute things to do to his jeep today when the hobby shop opens as 11am. I'm going to try to fix the wiring one more time for my drivers window and then take the Dodge truck over to Tina's to shampoo the front seats. They are pretty dirty from our trip to Alaska and I hope the stains come out. I also want to try to do something with Timmy today and look forward to seeing Tina for a while. Mom will still be camped out here tonight and I'm going to bring her out here after school. I also want to do some grocery shopping to stock up on supplies from the commisary before we leave here.

The BBQ went great yesterday. The weather cleared up so that it was sunny and not too chilly. The burgers came out great and we all wolfed ours down. Kayla enjoyed her hot dog. Tina, Kris, and Jesse had to leave to take Jesse to work but Mom and Kayla stayed for the day. Mom ended up getting a campsite out here and staying the night in her camper. We played Yahtzee and Kayla won. I had an enjoyable evening and everyone else seemed to as well. Gerry and I ran errands today, preparing for our departure on Wednesday.

Today is going to be a great day. Tina and her family are coming over with Mom for a BBQ here at my campsite. I picked up groceries to make good burgers and hot dogs. I'll serve it up with coleslaw and baked beans. The weather is a little overcast this morning and I hope it clears up for a nice day.

Mom and I went for a facial this morning and then enjoyed lunch and some time together this afternoon. It's great to hang out with her and the time makes me realize how much I love and appreciate her. We talked a bit about things we did in my childhood and I think fondly of times camping and hiking together as a family.

Yesterday I cleaned my jeep out and ran the shampooer across the seats and floor in the front. So much mud came out that I can hardly believe I was sitting on the seats in nice clothes. I am sure there is more dirt left, but I didn't want to over-saturate with water. Next time I'll get more. I spent about 5 hours cleaning it out and then ended with playing with Kayla for a bit while I waited for her mom to get home. They are all coming over tomorrow for BBQ burgers and hot dogs. It will be Jessica's first time seeing my new motorhome. I look forward to a bright sunshiney day and lots of love.

Cupids arrow struck us newleyweds and we romanced our way through the day and into the night. We finished off the day watching the movie I bought Gerry, "Men of Honor". He used to own a copy, but lost it somewhere between moves in Vermont. Since he's a retired navy diver, I figured he should have the movie and was impressed by the number of lines Gerry's memorized. Gerry and I watched the sunset from the beach before heading inside to begin our dinner preparation. We made 4 small pizzas from dough bought at Trader Joe's. We had white sauce pizza with feta cheese, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, olives, and spinach. Another white sauce pizza with lots of meats and cheese, a red sauce pizza with jalepenos, salami, and anchovies, and a final pizza with pesto sauce and the rest of the toppings we had prepared. They were yummy and baked well in our convection oven.

This morning is quite a bit warmer than yesterday and I look forward to a good day. I am going to install the cooler on my power steering return line and then head over to Tina's house to steam-clean my jeep seats. My mom may be coming camping out here this weekend and Tina and her family may come out as well. The weather will be great and it's a long weekend so I hope they come visit out here at the beach. We head out of town on Wednesday for the desert.

Happy Valentines Day! Today is the day cupid's arrow strikes our hearts and we are inspired by love. Yeah, right. This day seems more like a halmark glorification of mythology which gives candy manufacturers and florists the opportunity to bombard us with all things red or chocolate. With that said, you must understand that I never miss a day to celebrate love and today is a good excuse to do just that and perhaps all the advertising and valentino wares inspire others to join in the celebration. I hope we all use the day to celebrate the loves in our lives, whether they be a lover, the world around them, a friend, a pet, children, a favorite piece of music, or object of admiration. So let us celebrate love and life today.

This morning went quickly as I waded through the cool coastal fog and with each task endeavored to dispell the fog in my head. The sun worked at the fog impaled upon the ocean and by 11am lifted enough to see the bottom half of the point to the south. While I cleaned in the camper, Gerry found the two plates he bought me to raise the steering stabilizer brackets on my jeep and hopefully increase my steering capabilities. Right now the connecting rods interfere with the brackets and I have the steering stops adjusted out to reduce my steering. Today came the test of my welding abilities. I have been learning with this particular task in mind. I had to grind off part of the old stabilizer brackets and weld the new ones to the outside. This moved the brackets out towards the wheels and up, leveling out the steering stabilizer bar. I am still using the quick disconnects so I can disconnect the steering stabilizer and tie it out of the way for trail use. On the road it really helps with cornering, which I notice most on on-ramps or when I need to suddenly swerve on the road. Without the steering stabilizer, the jeep tends to dive down in the front and give a feeling of instability. Although some 4wheelers take these bars off, I have elected to keep mine for increased road safety.

I took my time at the shop today. First I lined everything up, clamped on the new plates, and connected the stabilizer bar to be sure the geometry was good. It was and I then used a cutting wheel on a side-grinder to cut off the excess part of the old bracket. I then ground it down for a smooth, fresh surface for welding and to remove material from where the steering connecting rods hit. I then re-clamped the plates on and double-checked the stabilizer bar. All looked good and I suited up for welding with the shop's leather jacket, gloves, and helmet. I used my own 6011 rod and set to welding. My ground wasn't very good, so I took the side-grinder and made a good clean spot to clamp the ground of the welder to. That did the trick and off I went, first spot-welding and then running a bead down the length of the bracket and along the top. First one bracket, then the next. When done, I connected up and tightened the stabilizer bar and then adjusted the steering stops for the increased steering I now have. Gerry helped me adjust the steering to center the steering wheel, as it as been about 25 degrees off-center since we replaced the steering rods a few weeks ago. I am very happy with the job and feel satisfied at being able to do it myself. Someday I hope to look back and laugh at how easy a job it was, but for now this is my first time welding on my own jeep and I am proud.

It's hard to believe a week has gone by in life. I find myself sitting in our camper watching the morning sun sparkle on the ocean as slight wind creates ripples on the surface to intensify the light. Dolphins swam by a bit ago and reminded me that the patterns of nature are constant, even though I may not always be. The past week I have wandered through life and sickness. The sickness was not so much my own, as I escaped with just a couple days of stomach cramps, but my young niece who was in bed for over a week. I helped with baby sitting when needed and found Kayla to be a pure delight, despite her fever and stomach flu. She went back to school yesterday and left her older sister in bed with the flu. Last week I had a rental car while my jeep was in the body shop. The shop was repairing the front fender under an insurance claim from when I spun off the road on I-80 in Wyoming during my drive back from Kentucky in December. The damage was not bad as I just hit one of the road markers as I slid to a stop on the shoulder. My rental car was nice and covered by insurance so that I only paid $0.53 per day for a Pontiac Grand Prix.

The shop said they would be done with my car by Friday, so when I didn't hear from them I called them after lunch. They said to call back at 4pm and they would know if my car would be done. That seemed ludicrous to me that they wouldn't know if I could pick my car up until 2 hours before closing, but I complied and called them back shortly after 4pm. I was told to come at 6pm to pick up my car. Shortly before 6pm I returned my rental car to Enterprise and called the body shop to let them know I should be there shortly after 6pm. They told me they would wait for me to get there. I expected to arrive and have my car all ready to go. When it wasn't out front, I became concerned but was reassured by the folks inside that it would be out soon. A few minutes later someone came out and told me they were waiting for "the paint to dry" so they could see "if the color matches" and it would be about 20 minutes. This didn't make me happy, but I patiently waited not 20 minutes, but 45 minutes with occasional updates from the shop. Then someone came out and asked me if I have a kill-switch on my car because it wouldn't start. "No, I don't have a kill switch", I said. The guy disappeared into the back once again and I heard the car briefly start and die. I went back into the shop the next time the guy appeared and tried to start it myself. The car wasn't getting any fuel and without tools and my ace mechanic, I didn't try to troubleshoot the lack-of-gas problem. I just called my night-in-shining-Dodge to come and rescue me. They guys from the shop waited with me and told me to come back on Monday to have the fender buffed out, because they weren't quite done. This alarmed me, but I said "ok". Pretty soon Gerry came with tow-bar in hand and we hooked up my jeep only to learn that the ball on the not-so-shining-Dodge was the wrong size. We elected to go forward with the tow anyways since we had a set of safety cables to hook up as the primary and chains to hook up as secondary. The only negative is that the front of my jeep was only 18" from the back of the slide-in camper in the truck and I had to do all the braking from my jeep. This was quite scarey to me because I couldn't see anything around the camper/truck and without power my brakes weren't very good. But with our cell phones on (mine in my lap on speakerphone), we made the drive back to the base with Gerry telling me when I needed to brake or turn. After what seemed like an eternity, we made it through the gate on base and dropped the car off outside the hobby shop for troubleshooting Saturday morning.

Saturday morning we were at the hobby shop when it openned at 9am and towed my jeep into a bay next to Gerry's jeep (which was left on the lift overnight during his transfer case changeout). I determined that my fuel pump wasn't pumping because there wasn't any power to it. After looking through my book, Gerry and I decided there was probably a bad relay, switch, resistor, or wire under the hood. I started with the area where the body shop was working and found a bank of relays, but no information in my book as to what they were for. As I was asking Pete from the shop about their computer manuals, he poked his head under the hood and said, "what about this wire, where does this go?". I said, "beats me". He plugged it onto a spade connector nearby and I jumped in the jeep and vrrroooooommmmmm. Problem solved. Apparently, someone at the shop inadvertently unplugged the wire, probably when picking up a tool they had set down on the engine. I was just glad to have my jeep running because I wasn't looking forward to having to drain my full-tank of gas to get to the in-tank fuel pump if that had been the problem.

With the jeep now running, I decided to tackle the next thing on my list; replacing the transfer case linkage. The original jeep linkage is a poor design and we still had the piece of wood holding mine in place from our last trail fix. Gerry found a linkage made by Novak and had ordered it for me. I just needed to remove my old linkage, including shifter, and bolt on the new one. Well, it wasn't quite that easy and I had to leave by 3pm to help my mom with a dinner she was hosting for the dinner club she owns. At 3pm I was knee-deep in work and over my head in frustration. So, I took off the parts I was trying to adjust, threw them in the back of my jeep and drove off with no center console and a big hole in the floor. I helped my mom out that night and put the troubles of the day behind me.

The next morning Gerry worked with me to adjust the linkage, which was much easier with two people and I had everything bolted in place by the time the hobby shop opened at noon. I went over there and worked next to Gerry, who was almost done with his jeep. I adjusted the play for the linkage to be where I wanted it and then figured out how I wanted the shifting lever bent to come up through the center console in the correct place. Gerry helped me bend the steel shaft by heating it up with the shop's torch while I bent it in a vice. We were done fairly quickly and I put it in and got everything cleaned up and back together. This was a much more satisfying day than the previous two.

Then came yesterday. I brought my jeep back to the body shop first thing in the morning for the "buffing" they had asked me for. When they arrived, I explained the pulled wire that caused my starting problem. I also explained that I wasn't happy with the work they did. The color was too light and there were pits in the filler. He said the buffing would take care of the pits and he would have his guys try to match the color better. I was told the car would be ready by the end of the day. I was called and told to pick it up at 5:30pm. My mom brought me there and they brought the jeep out with a big surprise for me. They painted a couple of the other areas on the jeep that needed it and also the rear body armor plate I had prepared. That was really nice of them and I was much happier with the color and thanked them for the extra work.

Now comes today and I am going to work on the power steering pump when the hobby shop opens at 11am. Gerry is going to work with me until I am comfortable proceeding on my own and then he is going to work on his jeep. It's running great with the new engine and he has a list of other things now to do. I suppose it will never be "done", but always a work in progress. Our jeeps can both certainly be enjoyed as is and I am anxious to hit the trail again soon.

It is strange to be without my jeep. When I look out the window I see the black Grand Prix rental car parked where my jeep should be resting up for the next trip. I brought it into the body shop this morning to have the dent from the snow-crash on I-80 fixed. I had asked about having them paint a couple other spots I prepped and they wanted almost $300 for what I deem to be 20 minutes of work and $50 of paint for me to do. So, I'll wait until I get it back and then paint it myself. At least the fiberglass work on the fender damaged on the road will be fixed.

Honey and I walked on the beach today and I found two sand dollars. One got a small chip in it carrying it in my pocket, but I still consider myself lucky for the finds. The tide was on its way out as we strolled along the water's edge looking for treasures. There were several snails and a large sea slug dead amongst the driftwood. As we returned back along the beach I noticed the tide starting it's turn to head back in. When walking on the edge one shares more intimacy with the changing of the tides than those looking from afar. It's good to live on the edge every once in a while to keep in touch with the tides. It's a gorgeous day with clear, blue skies, calm seas, and warmer temperatures than I've seen in a while. We are supposed to get up into the 70s this week and I look forward to the balmy days. Tomorrow after going for a physical at the doctors in town, I'm going to swing by Harbor Freight to buy a chipping hammer so I can work on learning welding. I should pick up some 6011 welding rod, too. That way I can go over to the auto skills shop and use their welding equipment in the afternoon. There's plenty of scrap metal, too, to use. My goal is to be able to weld my new steering stabilizer brackets on my jeep next week. I think I'll make spaghetti for dinner tonight. It's about time to get started on the meatballs. I am going cook up some extras and freeze them for future use. They'll be real handy for use on meatball sandwiches or to throw in a future batch of spaghetti.

New England lost the super bowl. It was a good game to watch because the Giants did great, but a bit depressing because we were rooting for New England. They were favored to win and just couldn't get their game together. The defense was not spectacular, the offense was middle-of-the road, and the quarterback just couldn't make plays. I figure the quarterback spent too much time in the last week with his supermodel girlfriend in New York rather than practicing and getting his mind in the game. The quarterback was spotted out at nightclubs and restauraunts and parties. I blame him for the loss, but in reality the coach and whole team contributed to the loss. So much for the perfect season they were hoping for. 18 wins and 1 loss is still a great showing, but a real let-down after such high hopes.

My lip is starting to lose its numbness from the dentist this morning and feels like there are creepy-crawlies in it. I hope the novicane is worn off soon. I managed to eat salad for lunch without biting my lip or cheek. The dentist ground out one of my old fillings because the tooth had cracked and put a crown on it. It was reallly neat to see him design the crown and make it right there in the room while I waited. The machine was a cerex and popped the crown out in 10 minutes. I was on my way within an hour and a half.

Gerry is working on installing our new water heater. The old one had trouble lighting and we wanted one that could run on electricity and propane so that when we are hooked up we can just leave it on all the time and not have to worry about using up propane. He's not having much fun trying to get the fittings to quit leaking but he just got it to stay lit on propane, so at least he's making progress. I plan to take the dogs for a long walk but want to wait until Gerry's done in case he needs my help for anything. Then I need to wash my jeep and clean it out for bringing it to the body shop tomorrow to have the dent from the crash in Wyoming on I-80 fixed. My insurance pays for a rental car so I am going to get one and then I don't have to worry about sharing a truck with Gerry.

Super Bowl Sunday is here at last. Gerry and I are going to hang out in our camper watching the game with views of the ocean, beach, and Mugu rock. I am making crab dip and salmon dip with crackers and veggies. Then at half time it will be nachos with guacamole for us fans. I really hope the Patriots do as well as they have all year. They haven't lost a game yet, and we are hoping for a perfect season. But anyone can win at anytime. It's all about preparation, focus, and gameday spirit. Whoever wants it most will end up with the win.

Today is Jessica's birthday party. Tina is making potato salad, baby back ribs, garlic bread, and cake. Mom is making baked beans and hosting the party. I am making tri-tip on the BBQ. I hope everything turns out good and Jesse enjoys her party.

Happy Birthday, Jessica! My neice is 19 years old today and it's hard to believe because I remember the day 19 years ago when she was born as the first February baby at the hospital. Jesse goes to community college and plans to get a place of her own and a car this year. I'm not sure how she'll save up for a car, though. I wish I could help more. She'll find a way.

I need to run out to the auto store in Simi Valley to get a fan spacer for Gerry. He's down working on his jeep. We got the engine in yesterday and he hopes to get everything connected up today so he can start her up. He ended up using the heads he had rebuilt last year for this new engine. He had another set of heads down at a shop in Oxnard for a while, but they weren't getting it done and told Gerry the day he was supposed to pickup the finished heads that they needed new valves. That is when he elected to use the old ones. He paid for the labor and parts thus far and took the boxes of parts from the engine shop. He may put them up on ebay. When I bring the parts to Gerry, I'll work on my jeep's body work some more. Off I go.
