Excerpts from KimmyLand - at Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station

This morning started out quite leisurely. I slept in, then had a nice breakfast with tea. I played with the dogs and played with my computer, watching the waves droll into the shore one at a time. A seal rests on the beach, having come ashore at dinner time to sleep. I haven't walked down near him and was glad to see people keeping a reasonable distance. Well, at least no one tried to touch him. A lady from the environment division on base is out there putting flagging around him to help protect him from passer-byers. I have noticed the sea gulls stay out of the area when the flagging is up, so it helps to let the critter rest a little longer.

I worked on welding the skid plates on the lower control arms of my jeep today. It took me quite a while because I removed the right arm, welded the bracket, replaced the arm, and then repeated on the other side. Getting the arms on and off took quite a while. Then I spot-welded the crossmember where one of the bolts is stripped and finally a new hanger for the muffler. After this, I cleaned up and helped Gerry with his jeep.

At the end of the day Gerry drove his jeep out of the shop and parked it in the trailer. We weren't sure it would fit now that it is taller. The rollcage cleared the top of the trailer, but the hood scraped. It turned out to be an easy fix, as it was scraping on a "happy trails" sign hanging off the shelf that is over the jeep's hood when parked. Gerry took the sign off and it just fits.
