It is hard to believe it is Sunday once again. This particular one is a scorcher here in southern California. I am not sure what the temperature is, but the sun is beating down and a warm breeze blows. It's not too bad on the beach because one can run in the freezing water and cool off quickly. Yesterday was almost unbearable up at Lake Casitas. My mom is camping up there this weekend and I went up for the day. Our hike was cut short by the heat and if it weren't for the running through a sprinkler on the way back to camp, I think I would have been exhausted from the heat. My nephew, Kris, and I took our wet bodies over to the marina for an ice cream sandwich and sat in the shade of a tree eating the refreshing treat. It didn't ruin our appetite for lunch and we enjoyed the veggie burgers and snacks mom prepared. I left around 6pm and headed back out to my camp on the ocean to find a pleasant 65 degrees awaiting me. It felt cold after the hot day and I relaxed in the camper with Gerry and the dogs.

On Friday, my six-year-old niece, Kayla, stayed over at my camp. She brought her sleeping bag to sleep on our guest couch. While the oven was heating up, Kayla and I went for a walk on the beach. She had hopes of swimming, but decided to just walk. She is a very creative girl and played an imaginary game where she was rescuing unicorns. These unicorns were actually sand piled up inside a beachtowel. She kept remarking on how heavy the unicorns were, but was persistent and carried them all the way down the beach. It wasn't until she saw a sand dollar, that she spilled some of the sand.

She was super excited because it was her first whole sand dollar. The pizza was ready when we returned to camp. It was yum, yum and the three of us ate the whole thing. Rather than having a camp fire that would "make us stinky", Kayla voted for a movie. We watched the first Chronicles of Narnia movie. It was very good and we all enjoyed it. By the time it was over, the clock heralded bedtime and we hit the hay to get ready for another day.

This heat makes me wonder if the snow is still on top of Mount Pinos. Looking at this picture of Kayla in a snow fort (that was there when we arrived) makes me feel a little cooler.

Tomorrow the auto shop is closed and we are going to run errands instead of working on jeeps. Gerry's jeep is nearing completion, but he still has a lot of work to go. The new rear drive shaft should arrive tomorrow and he will install is on Tuesday and hook up the brakes. I have a little more welding to do for him and some work on my jeep, too. In the morning we are going to the orthopedic surgeon to talk about surgery for Gerry's back. Hopefully the results of the MRI are good and the doctor schedules surgery for sometime soon.
