Excerpts from KimmyLand - at Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station

Today was spent working on our jeeps. I drove up to Paso Robles yesterday and had my input gear on my new transfer case changed out so it is correct for my 21 spline transmission output shaft. I got pretty greasy today and not only got the transfer case installed (with lots and lots of help from Gerry), but I also changed my front shocks and front tires. Someone who came into the auto shop a few days ago to work on his jeep had bought new tires and his rear tires looked like new, so he gave them to Gerry. I now have much better tread on the front and can put off buying new tires for a while. We decided to buy tires for the Dodge truck with our gift certificate from Moab. They arrived yesterday and we are storing them in the trailer for now. Since the truck will be sitting in the hot desert all summer, we are thinking of waiting to install the tires until we get back.

The transfer case fits nicely and we only had to shave a bit off the side of the crossmember to get it to fit.

I had never used a tire machine before, so got instruction/help from the auto shop and Gerry. We changed 4 tires in all, two for my front, one for my spare, and one for Gerry's spare. The guys from the shop balanced them while I worked on my shocks. This was my first time replacing shocks, too. The good news is the car drives real good and goes real slow with the transfer case in low. The bad news is the speedometer doesn't work. I'll talk to Gerry about it when he gets home. He's still over there working on his jeep.

He has the front end pretty much set up and is now working on the rear end. There will be some welding coming up, which I hope to help with. His jeep looks pretty bare with no rear end. He is plugging away and will be done before long. He is also converting the rear to disc brakes while he is doing this project. He found out online about using suzuki samurai brakes since the bolt pattern matches his.
